For the last 30 years The Rotary Club of Newnan in conjunction with the City and County have hosted the annual fireworks celebration. This year is no different. We have over 2000 community members who attend this annual event. We do not make money off of this event, we provide free activities for families and all monies raised are used to produce the event.
The Rotary Club of Newnan hosts an annual grant season. Typically, we award $10,000 in grants to local nonprofit agencies. However, this year we were able to award $20,000 due to the generosity of a movie production company who donated an additional $10,000 to support our community after filming here. We were able to award grants to 17 different nonprofit agencies.
We purchased and packed food items for 100 "teen backpacks" of food for students at Newnan High School to take home for a weekend. These are students who would normally not have enough food to eat on the weekends and are served through this program.
The Rotary Club of Newnan has several fun socials, but our Christmas social is typically the one that leaves lasting impressions. This one was no different. We invited a couple of our Communities In Schools (now Elevate Coweta Students) Students to enjoy the evening with us, but what made it more special was that we were able to present them with Christmas Gifts that they wouldn't have been able to receive from their families. These young ladies are A students who have family situations that may be a little tough. They were able to attend their first "fancy" event, have fun and interact with positive role models in a great environment. This was also the celebration of our 95th anniversary!
Each year our family collaborative creates and distributes a resource guide that is used in our local DFACS office, our food pantries, free clinics and other offices where those individuals who need certain types of assistance might be. This year, the Rotary Club of Newnan was one of the sponsors of this guide that helps the citizens of our community.
This project is in collaboration with a local elementary school that has the lowest socioecnonomic status in our community. These children need extra help with certain areas to succeed - this program helps to provide additional STEM, art and hands on life skills. We used our District Grant Funds to assist with this program. The kids read a book and then use the outdoor walls to paint what they learned in the books. They can also utilize the outdoor blocks to build and construct things that the learn in the books as well.
This project was originally funded by District Grant Funds in 2018-2019. We are currently serving in 3 different facilities each week - Insignia of Newnan Assisted Living, Benton House and Avalon Health & Rehab . Our target is to help those who have been affected by dementia and Alzheimers.
This is a sample of some of PR that has been placed in print media for our club.
For the second year, The Rotary Club of Newnan has participated in the local Repack the Backpack event. Our club hands out Rotary branded ear buds. Ear buds are now essential to learning in our school system where each child has a chromebooks. This repack the backpack serves children who are foster children or children of families with poverty level income.
Our first hands on service project for the year was at our changing of the guard. We packed 100 toiletry bags for the Samaritan Clinic to give away to their patients. We involved not only our members, but our family members of all ages!
We hosted an awareness event on World Polio Day by beaming the logo on our courthouse, handing out literature and through social media and print media. We also will have our Interact students following their induction join us for the event.
